Our Story
How It All Started
Arquigreen Corp. was founded in Miami in 2001 by the distinguished international architect Alberto Sbarra. The goal was to better serve the expanding business in the North American & Caribbean market of porphyry products from the partners Odorizzi Group: the biggest producer and exporter of porphyry products and other natural stones with their own quarries. Arquigreen Corp. has had an active presence in US since then, with a portfolio of hundreds of projects performed in Florida, Caribbean, and allover the country.
In 2016 Carlo Odorizzi, member of the Odorizzi family, joined the Miami company to provide additional stone expertise and management. Other stones were also added to the portfolio, like basalt, granite in different colors.
Arquigreen Corp. is uniquely positioned as a leader in turn-key projects involving the use of natural stone. Licensed General Contractor, we can go beyond sourcing material, to provide logistics and installation labor for hardscaping projects.

Porphyry stone
History
Porphyry stone has been valued for centuries, with relics found in Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Roman sites. Its name derives from the Latin porphyra, meaning purple red—a symbol of prestige and royalty.
In the old Basilica of Saint Peter, on Christmas day 800 a.d. Charlemagne was coronated Emperor on a Porphyry Wheel.
Porphyry gained significance in the Roman age, associated with luck and imperial status. The stone appeared in Saint Peter’s Basilica, Renaissance sculptures, and the Sarcophagus of Napoleon.
The 20th century brought advancements in quarrying, with growing demand leading to mechanization. From this period, the history of porphyry intertwines with the legacy of the Odorizzi family, shaping the modern industry.

Technical Characteristics
These are some technical characteristics for which designers choose porphyry above other stone products:
- Hardness: Compression strength more than 30.000 psi.
- Slip resistant: the natural surface makes it non slippery.
- Naturally oil/stain resistant: after a couple rainfalls, it’s clean again.
- Durable: no maintenance required, lasts for more than 50 years.
- Fashion: provides the Italian style that customers are looking for.
- Beauty: earth-tone colors, suitable for any location.
The most common products are:
- Cobblestones: Irregular in shape to install in fans or arches, or 4″x4″ to install in straight lines.
- Tiles: with a fixed width and random length, they can have split or sawn edges. The maximum size is about 16″x24″, even though the most common is 6″, 8″, 10″, 12″ in width.
- Flagstones: several sizes are available, most common in US being the Giant and Supergiant, for a size up to 5′.
- Curbstones: most common have 4″ or 6″ in thickness, with depth of 10″, to delimitate and contain areas.
- Smolleri, binders and filetti: unique products with short widths (2″ or 3″) and long lengths to produce interesting visual effects.

Granite
Granite
Granite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma that slowly cools and solidifies underground.
It is a common stone, available in many colors.
Granite is massive (lacking internal layers), hard, and tough. These properties have made granite a widespread construction stone throughout human history, and bring specific characteristics.
Smaller stones are usually split all sides, showing a characteristic rough edge and surface.
Bigger pieces are instead obtained by sawing the blocks to a specific thickness. The resulting surface is not suitable as is, and need to be further processed, with thermal finishing, or bushammering.

Products
Granite is found in blocks, so big sizes can be produced. It is suitable to cut-to size fabrication, and the most common shapes/surfaces are:
- Cobblestones 4”x4”: The traditional granite cobblestones have all 6 sides split; the more refined ones have the 4 edges sawn with the top face flamed. Other combinations are possible, like edges split and top flamed.
- Tiles: several sizes are available, from 6” to 36” in width and length.
- Surfaces and edges: Tile usually have flamed or brushed surfaces, and the edges are mostly disk cut
Monolithic pieces: considering the size of blocks, pieces up to 4’x8’ can be produced.

Basalt
Basalt
Basalt is a volcanic rock (coming from volcanic activity) formed from the rapid cooling of low-viscosity lava, rich in magnesium and iron. The volcanic activity can happen on the surface, or can be submarine. When the lava flow happens over the air, formations called “Columnar basalt” are very common. Instead, when the eruption happens underwater, very common is the formation of “Pillow Basalt”.

Products
Because of its formation, basalt does not have a natural surface (like Porphyry), and indeed the products are obtained by cutting or splitting the blocks. These blocks are not as huge as those found in granite, so maximum sizes available are limited to 24”. It is suitable to cut-to size fabrication, and the most common shapes/surfaces are:
Cobblestones 4”x4”: The traditional basalt cobblestones have all 6 sides split; the more refined ones have the 4 edges sawn with the top face flamed. Other combinations are possible, like edges split and top flamed.
Smolleri 2” wide x 8”/15” length: this is a Very unique product, ideal for modern applications.
Tiles: several sizes are available, from 6” to 36” in width and length.
Surfaces and edges: Tile usually have flamed or brushed surfaces, and the edges are mostly disk cut

Portuguese Stone
Portuguese Stone
Portuguese stone, or Portuguese pavement, is a traditional-style pavement used for many pedestrian areas in Portugal and throughout former Portuguese colonies Brasil). It consists of small flat pieces of stones arranged in a pattern or image, like a mosaic.
Pieces are irregular, in size 2” to 4” on each side, and the color is mostly black and white, from basalt and limestone.
Installation is very difficult and require high craftmanship, being more similar to mosaic installation than stone installation.

Products
Portuguese stones refers to the shape and the installation system more than the stone itselves. Different colors are obtained by different materials. Most common are:
Black
White
